Almera Tuning

Is this the best way to Almera-ilo?

The Almera is a good car tuning project to experience with. The standard car has keen handling and it’s run of the mill styling make it a good proposition to get a tuned sleeper.

Focus on some engine mods to release the entire potential of the Almera, then move on to handling mods. Don’t forget to uprate the braking either, car tuning is not just about making a car go faster!

Improving the handling needs to be your first priority in your Almera tuning project. We suggest that you fit uprated suspension over-all which is fully adjustable. Coil overs work pretty well and TorqueCars suggest your suspension be adjustable about the car enabling you to fine tune your suspension settings. In the event you lower the automobile by around 30-35mm as well, it seems to improve cornering ability and handling.

Tuning articles and tips

Our aim in Almera engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end.

Following our tips for tuning your Almera you will end up with a practical scorching hatch that will embarrass bigger cars.

The most effective power gains come from larger engine sizes. The more you start out with the bigger the return on investment so engine swaps are good value mods for small engined cars.

An engine swap from other Nissan models give you a world of options. Fancy a Pulsar GTIR engine anyone? Obvious transplants include the 2. Turbo from the 200 along with the 1.8 Turbo block also. We have also seen an RB25 block fitted but this might be a job for your very competent and power mad Almera enthusiast.

Nissan Almera Tuning modifications.

These modifications are often carried out by our members, select how far you wish to go before starting.

Stage 1 mods: Exhaust, Panel air filter, Remap, lighter flywheel

Stage 2 mods: Fast road polished, cam and ported head, fuel injector & fuel pump upgrades,

Stage 3 mods: Engine balancing, forced induction (turbo/supercharger), Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves), competition cam.

You really need to keep as much low end power as you can and aim for a large power band rather than a top end spike.

A fast road cam (not a competition cam) will be one of the better power mods you can do mechanically to your engine and will lift the peak power and lift the whole power band.

To acquire sufficient fuel you may need to uprate the injectors on your engine. A fuel pump will simply deliver a finite volume of fuel, so you may need to uprate this if your injectors are demanding more fuel particularly if you have added forced induction.

Nissan Almera Intake and Exhaust Tuning.

Now we proceed to the exhaust and intake and make sure proper flow through the engine. For small Almera engine sizes choose a washable panel air filter. On larger engines an induction kit can help increase power providing you address the problem of this needing cold air. A great sports exhaust is essential to balance your freer flowing air filter, just adding an induction kit on it’s own will do little to increase your power.

Receive an Almera sports cat fitted to release another few bhp from the engine, the standard cats, especially when they get older can be quite restrictive.

Airflow through the head can be dramatically increased with a few professional porting and polishing and a bit of valve work. Adding larger valves will be the obvious mod for the head but simple things like a 3 angle valve job can make a huge difference to both economy and power.

These should be and match setup to take into account any other engine mods. Your clutch can seriously let you down if it starts to slip and the standard clutches are only ever good for power gains of upto 50%. Fit an uprated clutch to avoid power losses through the transmission.

Please be aware it is easier to bolt on a supercharger than it is to get a turbo setup and working on your Almera’s engine if you really want to provide forced induction then. With a turbo the boost curve is related exponentially on the engine speed making it challenging to map. It really is easier to map a supercharger because the boost is proportional to engine speed on the linear curve. Adding forced induction will often require a lower compression ratio or water injection.

Nissan Almera Wheel modifications.

Some great benefits of alloy wheels include a lower unsprung weight and more efficient brake cooling. You alter your effective final drive ratio and this will have got a detrimental impact on performance and acceleration. Which is the downside to large alloy wheels on your Almera. Although some many people have gone larger we would stay with a 17 or 18 inch rim size since the maximum.

Vented discs with grooves and friction pads are best. Stay away from the track day pads since these are only really effective when they get warm and this may not be something that happens on the road.Get some nice grippy tyres for your Almera. Asymmetric and directional tread patterns are rated by our members so make sure you drop into our forum and find the thread on tyres.
